When an AI Overview appears, first-position click-through can fall by as much as 61%. See which of your pages are exposed.

AI Visibility

Someone below you is getting cited more.

Citation Delta plots each tracked competitor's average organic position against how often answer engines actually cite them. The interesting ones are never on the diagonal.

The problem

A competitor can sit four positions below you and be quoted by AI far more often. Nothing in a rank report will ever surface that, because rank is the one number it looks at.

Citation Delta, explained in about a minute

How it works

What it measures, what comes out, and why the number can be trusted.

  1. 01

Two numbers you already have, finally compared

Average organic position on one axis, measured citation rate on the other. The comparison is the whole product — neither number alone tells you anything you did not know.

  2. 02

    Each competitor gets a classification

Cited far above their rank, ranking well but rarely quoted, aligned, or behind on both. The label tells you what to do next, which a scatter plot on its own does not.

  3. 03

Their pages, scored on your scale

Tracked competitors are crawled and run through the same content audit as your own site, so a comparison is between like and like rather than between your data and their marketing.

What it does not do

  • It compares the competitors you track and the prompts you chose. It is a measured comparison, not a market census.
  • Citation rates carry the same run-to-run variance as everything else in answer-engine measurement.
  • It tells you a gap exists and where. Closing it is still content work.

Questions

How do I find which competitors AI recommends over me?

Citation Delta measures how often each tracked competitor is cited by answer engines and compares it to their average organic rank. Competitors quoted far above where they rank are the ones to look at first.

Why does a competitor get cited more when they rank lower?

Usually structure rather than authority: pages that open with a direct answer, carry a clear heading for the question, and state concrete numbers are easier for an engine to quote — regardless of position.

How many competitors can I track?

It depends on your plan, from one on Free up to twelve on Pro. You can name them yourself or let RankSage discover them.
